2017-2018 Student Athlete of the Year Winners!

We are honored to announce, on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the 7th annual RIIL Awards Luncheon at the Crowne Plaza, Warwick, the following student athletes were recognized as this year's Student Athlete of the Year recipients. 

On behalf of the Honorable Monsignor Robert Newbold, who served as the long-time Executive Director of the RI Interscholastic League, scholarship awards were given in his honor to these student athletes in the amount of $1,000 each.


Congratulations Lauren Civetti from Johnston High School and Ryan Maloney from North Kingstown High School!


A senior at Johnston High School, Lauren, has demonstrated great leadership and sportsmanship throughout her high school career… She is a positive role model both within the academic setting and extra-curricular activities. Lauren is a captain in three sports, which include Girls’ Basketball, Cross Country and Fast Pitch Softball. She volunteers at the RI Food Bank, organizes fundraiser walks, and coaches youth softball. Lauren is actively involved in the National Honor Society, Student Council, Chemistry Club, and the RIIL Student Advisory Board. She attended the 2017 National Student Leadership Summit in Indianapolis. Lauren plans to attend Towson University in the fall, and she will major in Forensic Chemistry. For her academic and athletic achievement and her outstanding leadership and service to others, it is with great pleasure that we recognize Lauren Civetti as the 2018 RIIL Female Student Athlete of the Year!



A senior at North Kingstown High School, Ryan, has demonstrated great leadership and sportsmanship throughout his high school career… He is a three-sport athlete participating in Football, Boys’ Basketball and Baseball. He led the Skippers to their first ever Football State Championship in Division II! Throughout the years, he has completed a wide variety of community service such as volunteering in an annual road race in memory of his mother, and a reading mentor at a local elementary school. Ryan is an Honor Roll Student and a member of the National Honor Society and Leadership Academy. He is ranked 9th out of a class of 341. Ryan plans to attend Georgetown Business School in the fall with a major in Finance while taking courses toward a medical degree. For his high academic and athletic achievement and his outstanding leadership and service to others, it is with great pleasure that we recognize Ryan Maloney as the 2018 RIIL Male Student Athlete of the Year!
