BRYAN BERARD - One of the greatest hockey players to come out of the storied Mount St. Charles program, Berard led his teams to state titles in 1992, ’93 and ’94. After leaving Mount, Berard played junior hockey, and wound up playing 19 seasons in the National Hockey League. He was a first-round draft pick in 1995 by the Ottawa Senators. He was traded to the New York Islanders in ’96, and also skated for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, Chicago Black Hawks and the Columbus Blue Jackets. In 2000, while skating for Toronto, he suffered a severe eye injury. After several eye operations, Berard made his NHL comeback with the New York Rangers.
CRAIG BLANCHARD - For more than 20 years, Blanchard was involved with the Interscholastic League as web designer and Webmaster. He designed, monitored and maintained the RIIL site, as well as train staff and athletic directors in the new system. Through his work our schools moved forward to a unique, modern and computerized program that provided a tremendous service to our schools, athletes and fans. Blanchard also provided his web expertise at all RIIL and New England Wrestling Championships.
BOB CAVANAGH - A man long synonymous with South Kingstown High School athletics, Cavanagh served as the Rebels’ boys’ soccer coach (having begun the program in 1975), and as the school’s athletic director for nearly 20 years. He was a five-time soccer Coach of the Year, and currently serves as RIIL Director of boys’ soccer.

He was the offensive line coach under legendary coach John Toppa on the Rogers football teams of the ‘70s and ‘80s. He also coached freshman football at Brown University.

A director of boys’ indoor and outdoor track, as well as boys’ cross country, Lawton is also the assignor of officials at these meets. Via the labor of many years’ work, Lawton has compiled meet statistics on cross country and track, reaching back to the beginnings of these sports as RIIL activities.

Interscholastic League athletics, particularly cross country and track-and-field, span nearly five decades and include working as a track official for approximately 20 years. A member of the R.I. Track Coaches Hall of Fame and the Words Unlimited Hall of Fame, he worked as a high school sports reporter during his 38-year career at the Providence Journal. Since retiring from there in 2001, Leddy has continued to write features and provide timely coverage of high school meets as a correspondent for the R.I. Track & Field Foundation.

She provided unequaled coverage of the high school beat. Thornton is currently Director of Multimedia Content for the Interscholastic League.
GERALD ZIFCAK - The sports legers at Burrillville High are crammed with the exploits of Zifcak, a three-sport standout (football, hockey and baseball). He achieved the bulk of his sports success on the ice, where he guided the Broncos to R.I. and New England hockey titles. Zifcak is still Burrillville’s all-time scoring leader, with 242 career points. He played two seasons of hockey at Providence College, and was among the Friars’ leading goal scorers. He is a member of the Burrillville High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
