Media Members are reminded of the following:
- These credentialing rules are administered and amended as deemed appropriate by the RIIL, in its sole and absolute discretion.
- The RIIL reserves the right to grant, issue, deny and revoke media credentials for any reason to any individual or outlet based on the interpretation and intent of these policies and rules as determined by the RIIL in its sole and absolute discretion.
- All media attending Rhode Island Interscholastic League Tournament Events are required to be registered in advance with the RIIL. (See link to Media Credential Registration Form below.) Walk-up requests will not be considered. There is no guarantee that requests submitted to the RIIL office within 48 hours of the event will be granted. Credential requests for weekend events must be submitted by 10 a.m. on the Thursday prior to the event.
- Media requests will be vetted by criteria that includes, but is not limited to:
- Organizations must have an established, longstanding history of coverage.
- Organizations must have credibility as a news-gathering organization.
- Organizations must have editorial oversight.
- Organizations must create original content which can only be generated by being onsite at an activity.
- Organization's coverage must go beyond the distribution of in-game scoring/statistics updates and highlights.
- Media Credential must be worn and visible at all times. Members of the media who do not have an RIIL media credential will not be granted access to RIIL-authorized media areas.
- Passes are non-transferable and are to be used by working members of the media only.
- The RIIL does not issue photography credentials strictly for freelance purposes or to commercial photographers other than its licensed vendors for selected events.
- Credential requests from internet sites or magazines will be considered on an individual basis.
- Credential requests from entities that are exclusively social media-based will not be considered.
- Credential requests from recruiting or scouting services will not be considered.
- The RIIL membership has a right to expect the bearer of the RIIL Media Pass to exhibit professional behavior, respect student privacy, provide truth, accuracy, fairness and impartiality in his/her reporting, and accept accountability for his/her actions while covering RIIL Tournament events.
- The RIIL may deny or revoke credentials for noncompliance with RIIL policies, for conduct for which there are reasonable grounds to believe violates state or federal law or for behavior that constitutes a breach of professional ethics.
- Media must comply with all restrictions designated by the RIIL and/or RIIL Tournament facilities. Media must not be located where they could interfere with action in the playing or coaching area. Team benches and locker rooms are designated as unauthorized areas to the media at all times. RIIL Tournament facilities may require additional restricted areas.
- Media journalists and photographers must stand clear of the awards presentation area and are asked to refrain from conducting post-game interviews until after the awards ceremony has been completed.
- The Rhode Island Interscholastic League shall own the copyright of all broadcasts (live and delayed, excluding highlights – which are not longer than five (5) minutes in duration), films, videotapes, web casts, other electronic reproductions and recordings of events telecast pursuant to agreement. Notice of the Rhode Island Interscholastic League copyright shall be included as part of every Rhode Island Interscholastic League sports event telecast made pursuant to agreement. The notice shall consist of the symbol or the word “Copyright”, followed by the year that the event is first telecast and the name “Rhode Island Interscholastic League.” and shall appear in the opening and closing credits.
- The RIIL reserves the right to limit the number of credentials approved for a given RIIL Tournament event based on facility-imposed restrictions and/or any public health related restrictions.
